YBHG. PROF DATUK DR MD. ZABID HAJI ABDUL RASHID is the President & Vice Chancellor of University Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) and the Chief Executive Officer of Tun Abdul Razak Education Foundation (Yayasan PINTAR).
Prof Zabid received his Bachelor of Science Agribusiness from University Pertanian Malaysia (1979), Master of Science from Wye College (now Imperial College) University of London (1980), Diplome Etude Approfondie (DEA) from University of Aix-Marseille, France (1983), and Doctor of Science in Management from University of Aix-Marseille/ ESSEC, France (1988).
He started his career in Sumitomo Corporation, Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) and then joined Universiti Pertanian Malaysia in 1980. He was Head of Department of Management Studies, Faculty of Economics & Management, UPM (1988-1995), Deputy Dean, Faculty of Economics & Management, UPM (1995-1997), and Founding Dean, Malaysian Graduate School of Management (1997-2001), and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Malaysian Graduate School of Management Foundation. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 1993, and promoted to the rank of Professor in 1999. In June 2003, he retired from UPM and joined Open University Malaysia. He was formerly the Director, Centre for Graduate Studies, and Professor of Management, Faculty of Business & Management, Open University Malaysia between 2003-2006.
Prof Zabid has written more than 140 articles in various forms including journals in Malaysia, U.K., U.S.A., Australia, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Singapore. He has participated in various conference proceedings, seminar papers, monographs, chapters in book, and a book. He has extensive experience in research, consultancy and training. He was a Visiting Professor in Hoschschule Bremen, Germany and External Examiner for masters and doctoral theses in Malaysia, Australia and India.
Prof Zabid has also served as consultant to many corporate and government entities in Malaysia, and as a committee member to the National Economic Action Council (NEAC), Prime Minister’s Department. He also served as Assessor for the National Accreditation Board, Co-Chair 8th World Marketing Congress 1997 - Academy of Marketing Science, USA; Vice President of the Asian Academy of Management, and many others.
He has received recognition from Pan Pacific Business Association, USA; World Marketing Congress, Academy of Marketing Science, Perth; and Emerald Literati Publications, UK. He is also a director in BizAid Sdn Bhd, ePractice Marketing Sdn Bhd, Unitar Capital Sdn Bhd., and Malaysian School of Management Sdn Bhd.
In October 2007, he was bestowed the ‘Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka’ (DMSM) award by H.E. the Governor of Melaka State. In January 2010, he was awarded the Fellow of Certified Practising Accountants (FCPA) by CPA Australia. Prof Zabid was admitted as a Chartered Accountant of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) on 9 February 2012.
